Some of you might be too young to remember “Le Chouchou de Miami” Top Vice performing at Lime Key every Friday night in Kendall back in the early 90’s but I know everyone remembers Top Vice at Spirit night club with the legendary Robert Martino on guitar and lead vocalist extraordinaire Fredy literally drawing the audience to a cult like following. Then you had Robert Charlot the Maestro of the band with the sultry voice and Joe Charles the bassist with impeccable timing. Every Friday night in Miami the transplanted Floridians from Haiti with discriminating taste in music and in atmospheres where gathered in one place for years and years. First Lime Key then Spirit night club and later at Millenium Night Club in Hallandale Beach and then it was the end of an era. If I may be bold enough to venture out and say that Casa Chanpet resuscitated that Era last night with an outstanding gig featuring none other than Shleu-Shleu Miami All Stars featuring Robert Charlot. It was father and daughter night out, so I was in attendance with my Dad Roland Mecklembourg of Rojmeckart.com who simply was there to keep his daughter company and keep those guys away from staring at me all night long (lol)…but instead proceeded to have the time of his life! For one night only, Casa Chanpet in Pembroke Pines, hosted an evening to remember entitled Long live Konpa or Vive Konpa with Shleu-Shleu Miami All Stars which included original members of Shleu-Shleu and Top Vice for an unbelievable night reminiscent of what we like to call “the good old days”.
